Research Process.

Harmony Wedding Venues

The Project.

A wedding checklist app for a wedding venue. This product will be utilized by both workers and clients of the wedding venue.

The Problem.

Wedding venue workers were having a hard time keeping track of their tasks. This lead to miscommunication and tasks not getting completed.

The Goal.

Create a wedding venue checklist app that lets everyone involved in the wedding keep track of tasks and check them off of their list.

Timeframe.

Role.

Lead UX Designer and Researcher

Responsibilities.

Research, Creating personas, user journey maps, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.

The Research.

After creating personas and user journey maps I came to the conclusion of the pinpoints listed.

Pain Points

1

Some found it difficult to keep track of tasks that were verbally assigned. Because of this there should be a way to input tasks in the app.

Keeping Track

2

Some tasks were given to multiple people or they were given multiple times to the same person. A way to address this should be in the app.

Repetitive Tasks

3

Some that were involved in the wedding did not have the information they needed to complete a task. There should be a way to add details for a task in this app.

Communication

4

Some workers are being asked to do more than they have time to do. There should be a way to ask for the task to be reassigned in the app.

Overload

Personas

Sandra is a busy Event Coordinator who needs a clear way to keep track of tasks because the tasks will need to be delegated to members of her team.

John is a musician who needs to know what songs to play at the wedding because he wants to perform his job well.

Journey Map

Wireframes.

I drew a version of every screen so that I could see them together before I moved to a digital format.

Sketching allowed me to get ideas out quickly before creating the final wireframes in Figma.

It was difficult at first to get past my own ideas and focus on the needs of the customer. But the result was worth it!

Low-Fidelity Prototype.

I decided to add color and fonts before creating and testing a prototype. I wanted to confirm that the fonts and colors I used were readable.

I tested this prototype in two rounds, making changes after each one in response to the findings

Round One Findings.

  1. Task page button was hard for users to find

  2. Message button on homepage was not needed

  3. Way to mark tasks complete was not clear

Round two Finding.

  1. All tasks button was confusing for users

  2. Users thought add task button was too small

  3. Complete button on task info page was confusing for users.

Iterate.

After the usability study I took the findings and used them to edit my designs.

High-Fidelity Prototype.

At this point I realized I could keep iterating on the design and doing usability studies to continue improving the design. Users were able to navigate the design without instruction so I decided to stop at this point and complete this assignment.

All designs have the potential for continuous improvement. As a designer its our job to decide when its ready to send on to developers.

Takeaways.

This project was completed as a classroom assignment. As I went through this project I learned more about what it means to design for the user and not for what I think the user needs. If this were a project for a client I would suggest the following next steps:

I would use a final version of this app. I think it would help me to stay organized
— User in study
I learned that looking through the eye of the user greatly impacts designs. It is not something I was expecting to drastically change how I designed each slide.

Next Steps.

  1. Iteration: I recommend having another round of iteration from the feedback of the second round of testing

  2. Production: The next step is putting this app into production and getting a usable version of the app.

  3. Review: I would recommend continued iteration and user reviews after the app is used in the field.
